Jennifer Lawrence was the most Googled celeb in 2014 both globally and in New Zealand, in a year when she won her second Golden Globe award and starred in The Hunger Games: Mocking Jay Pt 1 and X Men Days of the Future Past. But, perhaps predictably, ‘Jennifer Lawrence’ searches appeared to peak in September nude photos of her and other A list celebrities were leaked online.

Searches for Michael Schumacher peaked after his tragic accident at the very end of 2013 and again when he was released from hospital later in 2014. Schapelle Corby hit the headlines again this year when she was released on bail from a Balinese prison in February, making her the third most popular non-New Zealander searched for by Kiwis.

Perhaps unsurprisingly singer Lorde, who has had an amazing year with the release of her first album and a nomination for a Golden globe, was the number one NZ celeb we wanted to find out about. The gossip columns also appeared to be a driving force behind the top ten Kiwis we searched for in 2014 with Aaron Smith and Lisa Lewis both making the top 4 after their fling which hit the headlines in April. Number 3 was radio host Rachel Smalley who offended women across New Zealand with her comments about weight which were accidently broadcast when she forgot to turn off her microphone.
